Master Boon Brown earned 1st and 2nd
Degree Black Belts from Grandmaster Sung Hwan Cho of Bradenton,
Florida. He taught for Grandmaster Cho, but eventually sought
his own path. He dedicated himself to the study of various
martial arts and continued his lifelong study of sword fighting
and swordsmanship. He also earned a degree in Education
so that he would understand better how to teach and provide
training for his students.
To put himself through school, he worked
for two years as a recreational therapist's assistant at
a psychiatric facility where his martial arts skills were
often put to the test. Few instructors get this kind of
authentic training and experience.
Through this period he faced many revelations
of the inaccuracy and lack of logic to many of the things
he had been taught. He vowed to change things. Too often
people who train in martial arts feel a false sense of confidence.
This feeling comes from being frequently rewarded for excelling
in physical skills that may or may not be based on valid
and functional self defense abilities. Although that confidence
is good, it's better to build a true since of confidence
based on developing skills that are viable in the real world.
He was eventually awarded 3rd and 4th
degree Black Belts and recognized as Master. He has previously
declined all offers of promotions, stating that above 4th
Degree, they are based too much on politics and not enough
on talent, but he has since decided to continue his training
and to allow a panel of peers to judge him. He expects to
progress to 5th degree in 2008. Today he is considered the
Founder of Ancient Ways and the patriarch of a long line
of celtic teachings. He refers to his style as Celtic martial
arts, more because of how it is taught, than what is actually
taught. The Celtic Style caters to the students' strengths
and minimizes their weaknesses. This is how the Celtic Warriors
taught through out Europe.
These great warriors may have been the originators of organized
martial arts training centuries before the Asian martial
arts were developed. Their culture spread throughout Europe,
and their traditions still exist today in many of our own
practices. The Celtic style of martial arts is very practical
and has some similarities to the Asian arts. Master Brown
has incorporated it into his style and takes the best parts
of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Celtic martial arts and provides
all of these as potential paths for his students.
Having a family of his own, he is a dedicated husband and
father who fashions his training style to benefit all students,
adults, adolescent and children. With everything he teaches
he considers his only family and what he wants them to learn.
Classes focus on logical techniques, fun and safe training,
the traditions of multiple cultures, and an honored code
of conduct.
